The Red Cross is urgently calling for the people of Bundoora to donate blood.
Bundoora is one of five areas requiring an immediate increase in blood donations, according to the service.
The Red Cross launched a campaign last week calling for 2200 donations over the next three weeks. Bundoora is in need of 169 additional donations during this period.
The blood donations will help a variety of patients, including surgical patients, cancer patients and premature babies.
Erin Lagoudakis, Red Cross’ Victorian public affairs officer, encouraged people who have not donated in a while or who have never donated to start the lifesaving habit.
“We are calling on anyone who hasn’t donated for a while to make an appointment; particularly donors with the blood types O and A,” she said. “Every blood donation can save three lives.”
The organisation is also desperately calling for more donations in the suburbs of Airport West, Frankston, Mt Waverley, Ringwood and Werribee with mobile donor centres visiting other selected areas from May 27 to June 7.
