Students in northern secondary schools will be encouraged to study
science, technology, engineering and mathematics at university.
La Trobe University’s Curriculum Bridges program, which targets
schools with low tertiary attendance, has received a $1.3 million
federal government grant for expansion.
La Trobe vice-chancellor John Dewar said the funding decision
would boost the program for northern suburbs and regional students.
“This program aims to challenge, inspire and empower year 10-12
students to think seriously about going to university,” Professor Dewar
said.
The additional funding means the pilot program will be expanded
from three to 12 schools, including all five senior secondary schools in
Bendigo and seven schools in northern Melbourne.
Mill Park Secondary College and Reservoir High School, already part of the program, will be joined by Glenroy
Secondary College, Bundoora Secondary College, Charles La Trobe
Secondary College, Gladstone Park Secondary College and Epping Secondary
College.
