Green thumbs up for Epping Primary School gardens

Epping Primary School pupils are in autumn mode already, planting a green border to screen the school’s main road boundaries.

All year levels have been involved in planting about 70 saplings along High Street and Memorial Avenue.

Last week both Landcare Australia and the Victorian government announced award programs for schools-based garden projects.

The Victorian Schools Garden awards opened last week for all state, Catholic and independent schools. The awards recognise existing and new school gardens and the achievements of students and their school communities.

New categories have been added this year – for sensory gardens, and a school backyard makeover pack valued at $2250.

Landcare Australia, in conjunction with the Jemena energy company, launched awards for primary schools in Melbourne’s north for projects that help them live, grow, explore or interact in their community sustainably.
