A not-for-profit learning and employment organisation joined with a Hume group for a two-day conference in Tullamarine last week on improving education, training and employment outcomes for 10-to-19-year-olds.
At Hume Whittlesea Local Learning and Employment Network and the Hume Middle Years Working Group’s inaugural “Connecting Our Tweenies – Middle Years Forum”, more than 24 education and youth experts spoke about the importance of these “transition years”.
Network partnership broker Nicky Leitch said the forum was “about showcasing good practices in Hume”.
“What has emerged overwhelmingly is that schools underestimate the value of a parent’s role in their child’s education. And sometimes parents underestimate their own role,” she said. “But when schools and parents work together, that child is going to work really well.”
