Premier Cricket:Greenvale saves best for last

Greenvale will look to end a disappointing Victorian Premier Cricket season on a high, after posting 306 against Casey-South Melbourne.

The highest total of the Kangaroos’ season featured contributions from the entire order. Opener Eric Ghasperidis (69) combined for a 94-run stand for the third wicket with Daniel Salpietro (41).

A mini-collapse of 4-6 saw Greenvale reduced to 6-133, but a 48-run partnership between skipper Carl Sandri (26) and James Damjanovski put Greenvale back in control.

Damjanovski’s innings of 91 was brilliant. He shared partnerships of 55 with Dominic Reed (20) and 66 with Matthew Twentyman (30), guiding the Roos to 300.

Outright victory would mean Greenvale can leapfrog Casey-South Melbourne into 15th.

The news was not as good in the second XI. Sent in to bat, Greenvale was rolled for 165 from 55.1 overs. By stumps, Casey-South Melbourne was 3-126, just 40 runs short of victory.
