Thirty artworks have been installed in Thomastown to commemorate the rollout of an energy-efficient lighting scheme that will have almost 7000 street lamps upgraded in the Whittlesea municipality over the next two years.
Young artists from the council-run after-school program Baseline created the environmentally inspired artworks, which have been overlaid onto the pavement along Highlands Road and High Street in Thomastown. It’s here that the first streetlights will be replaced as part of the $2.6 million Energy Efficient Streets and Libraries Project.
The project is estimated to save about $387,000 each year in electricity bills.
