FFV State League 3: Buzz returns to Lalor United

Lalor United is on a roll, with four straight wins in FFV State League 3 north-west, after defeating Whittlesea United 2-1 on Saturday.

Club chief executive Igor Georgievski says excitement is returning to the club after major changes in the off-season.

“We basically had a whole new playing list with a couple of older players who we decided to keep,’’ he said. “They have had to gel with each other in the opening weeks and learn to play with each other.”

While happy with Saturday’s 2-1 win, Georgievski said the margin could have been bigger.

Slave Bozinovski and Saso Alexovski were the goalscorers for Lalor, while Sinan Mirik found the net for Whittlesea.

“We were down 1-0 in the first half, but we should have been up – we had three or four chances to score,’’ Georgievski said.

“We were not playing as well as we could, but were better in the second half.”

Lalor United is now sixth on the ladder and is looking for promotion at the end of the season, despite jumping from division 4 to division 3 this season because of changes to the NPL.

“It is hard to jump from division 4 to division 3, and then jump another grade in 12 months. The next couple of weeks will tell us,” Georgievski said.

“We are only six points behind the leaders now and by the half-way mark we would like to be in third or fourth.”

In other State League 3 north-west matches, North City Wolves defeated Essendon United 3-2 and Northern Roosters defeated Altona City 3-2.

In State League 2 north west, Hume United defeated Yarraville FC Seniors 2-1, while Sporting Whittlesea and Melbourne University drew 2-2.

Winners in State League 4 north were Fawkner, Upfield, Watsonia Heights and Darebin United. Heidelberg Eagles and Plenty Valley Lions, and Bundoora United and Parkville Panthers played out draws.
