Craigieburn’s women’s team suffered a shock loss to Keilor Thunder in Big V division 1. The Eagles’ inaccuracy cost them dearly in a seven-point loss. In an even contest, the Eagles put up more field goal attempts but it was the Thunder’s better shooting that prevailed. The Eagles started poorly, making only two field goal attempts in the first quarter to be four points down at quarter-time. The second term saw both teams increase the scoring rate with the Eagles able to reduce the margin to two. In the second half, the Thunder extended the lead to seven points to win for the fourth time season. For the Eagles, Belinda Campbell top scored with 15 points. Elsewhere in division 1, the Whittlesea Pacers defeated the Southern Peninsula Sharks 91-56.

The Northern Blues suffered their second successive loss, to Coburg by nine points: 12.6 (78) to 9.15 (69). After an even first quarter, the Lions opened up an 18-point lead in the second term. The Blues rued poor kicking in the third as the Lions extended the lead to 30 points despite the Blues having more scoring shots. AFL-listed youngster Patrick Cripps was best for the Blues with three goals. The game marked the Blues’ first contest against a stand-alone Coburg outfit since 2000 after they ended their 13-year alignment with Richmond at the end of last season.
