NPL: Debutant Abel Fesseha’s double carries City to win over Werribee City

Abel Fesseha scored twice on debut as Hume City bounced back from a disappointing result the previous week to beat Werribee City 3-0 in National Premier League on Sunday.

Fesseha’s goals gave Hume a 2-0 half-time lead in the home match at Broadmeadows Valley Park and a third goal by Richard Cardozo added icing to the cake.

Coach Louie Acevski said it was good to be back on the winners’ list.

“We were in control for the whole 90 minutes and were never under threat,” he said.

“We should have scored another two or three, but it didn’t happen, which is a little disappointing.”

He said Fesseha caused havoc in the Werribee defence, scoring in the seventh and 42nd minutes. Cardozo’s came early in the second half.

“The win took us from eighth to fifth on the ladder,” Acevski said.

“We need two or three wins in a row as the league is so compact. If you can win a couple of games you’re in the top four. If you lose a couple, you’re back in the pack.

“We’re trying to finish as high as possible, but this is more of a rebuilding phase for us and I’m happy with where we’re sitting at the moment.”
