Craigieburn arena sponsorship a first for Calder Cannons

The Calder Cannons are the first TAC Cup side to be offered naming rights sponsorship for their home stadium.

Highgate Reserve in Craigieburn has been renamed RAMS Arena after the home-loan giant offered the Cannons and Hume council a $77,000 deal over the next three years.

Calder Cannons is the leading “elite AFL talent pathway club” in Australia.

RAMS western region principal, Craigieburn’s Vas Nikolovski said the partnership was a first in AFL grassroots football.

“This is the first time that RAMS has become involved in the naming rights of a sporting stadium,” Mr Nikolovski said.

“But it’s the community connection that’s important to us.” He said the RAMS Arena was much more than a name change; it represented an important step in trying to make a difference in the community.

“Our aim is to use the arena as a base to hold a series of community health and welfare seminars, and improve financial literacy among the rich diversity of people who make up Craigieburn and the surrounding suburbs,” he said.

Hume mayor Casey Nunn opened RAMS Arena last Tuesday.
