Craigieburn’s State Emergency Service is recruiting new members.
With six graduates having just completed training, the unit has a new course starting August 19.
Craigieburn SES controller Martin Ledwich says volunteering is a great way to know what to do when disaster strikes.
“There are roles for everyone, from working the chainsaw to communications and even public education,” Mr Ledwich said.
New recruit Sam Boult has just completed training and is keen to get out in the field.
“I wanted a new challenge in life and to give back to my community,” Sam said.
“SES was the perfect avenue for that. It’s very welcoming, challenging, fulfilling and I love it.”
Volunteers receive accredited training for their roles, including learning rescue skills, how to operate chainsaws and how to secure a roof in a storm.
