Hume council calls on youth to be a councillor

Young people interested in shaping the future of their community have until tomorrow to add their voices to conversations going on around Hume.

People aged 12 to 25 are being encouraged to apply for the Hume youth councillor program, which provides future leaders with an opportunity to meet mayor Casey Nunn, present an issue they are passionate about and experience what it’s like to be a councillor.

“We know young people in our city are bright and full of great ideas, and the youth councillor program is an opportunity for council to connect with young leaders and learn about the issues important to them,” Cr Nunn said.

“It’s also a chance for young people to experience the decision-making process, issues and opportunities that exist in local government.”

Participants will join councillors for dinner, followed by a council meeting.

“The program offers great networking opportunities and valuable development experience, both professionally and personally,” Cr Nunn said.

The program will run from 4-8pm on August 11, September 8 and October 13.

A youth services officer will accompany successful applicants and transport to and from Hume’s Broadmeadows offices will be provided.

Applications close tomorrow, Wednesday, July 30. Details www.hume.vic.gov.au/youthservices or 9205 2208.
