Sun shrinks Mill Park library’s electricity bill

Solar panels are cutting costs at Mill Park library.

A rooftop installation of 100 panels, financed by Whittlesea council’s energy efficiency fund, means the city’s biggest library could save more than $6000 a year in bills, with the panels due to pay for themselves in about six years.

The solar panels are one way of reducing reliance on coal-fired electricity, while the council’s other initiatives include energy- efficient lighting, dimmers and motion sensors, sealing gaps in buildings to reduce heat loss, and adjusting heating and cooling systems.

Savings will finance other initiatives and new technologies. To make energy-efficient changes at your home, call council sustainability officer John Edwards on 9217 2209 or email john.edwards@whittlesea.vic.gov.au
