Bread is a powerful peacemaker – it binds communities, connects people and bridges cultural gaps. Last week, people broke bread at Westfield Plenty Valley to promote the Well Bread Festival, which takes place next weekend. Bakers Feride Adas (pictured) and Maria Callipari plunged their hands in flour, moulded dough and showcased their cultures. Ms Adas made the savoury Turkish filled flatbread, gozleme, while Ms Callipari prepared the famous Italian fried sweet dough, zipoli. The festival will be held from 11am-4pm on Sunday, August 24, at the Barry Road Community Activity Centre, 36 Barry Road, Lalor. For details call 9217 2174. … Sumeyya Ilanbey
