Ground broken at The Boulevard

Ground has broken at The Boulevard town centre in Thomastown, marking the beginning of the streetscape’s revitalisation.

Whittlesea mayor Lawrie Cox said the works which started in February will transform the outdated under-utilised space into a vibrant, modern and welcoming destination.

“The money invested in this project will boost economic activity in the area by helping to attract new businesses and new customers,” Cr Cox said.

“I want to thank our funding partners for their generous contributions to this program and I am excited to see this project develop over the months to come.”

The $4.2 million project which will be delivered by Whittlesea council has been supported by a $2.8 million contribution from the federal government, and a further $100,000 from the Transport Accident Commission.

Scullin MP Andrew Giles said the project will deliver better community infrastructure.

“It’s so important growing suburbs like Thomastown are supported with attractive social spaces for residents to not just live in, but to thrive,” Mr Giles said.

“This project benefits everybody in the community – from families doing their weekend shopping, to local businesses thriving from a safer and more attractive streetscape.”

The upgrades include new social spaces, raised pedestrian crossing, front-of shop parking, street lighting, gardens and tree planting. The project is estimated to be complete in April 2027.
