Kavanagh returns to EDFL

Former West Coast Eagle Kayley Kavanagh will return to where it all began, becoming the latest former AFLW player to sign with an Essendon District Football League women’s club.

Strathmore announced that Kavanagh had signed with it as her local club for this season.

“Welcome home, Kayley Kavanagh,” the Mores said.

“Kayley began her football journey with our under-12s in 2017. She achieved premiership success, earned best on ground honours, and this talented footballer was drafted from the Calder Cannons to the West Coast Eagles in 2023.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kayley back as she signs with Box Hill VFLW [Victorian Football League women] and returns to Strathmore as her home club.”

Kavanagh played seven games with Eagles after missing her first season with a knee injury.”

In other signing news, Aberfeldie has signed Meg Ginnivan.

Ginnivan played with Port Melbourne last season in the VFLW, playing seven games.

She had played with Castlemaine previously and was one of the Central Victoria Football League’s best players.

“Our women’s team continues to add quality and experience to the group, and we’re excited to welcome Meg Ginnivan to the club,” Abers said.

“A premiership captain, league best and fairest and VFLW midfielder, Ginni has built a reputation as a tenacious, team first player who thrives in the contest and drives standards both on and off the field.

“Her leadership, work rate and commitment to development make her a fantastic addition to our program, and we’re excited to see the impact she’ll have in the two blues this season.”
