Heartbreak for Warriors

Westmeadows’ grand final hopes ended with rain in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association women’s competition.

The weather gods weren’t on the Warriors side on Sunday in their match against Maribyrnong Park St Marys.

The battle between second and third ended with the match being abandoned after heavy rain continued to fall.

Opting to bowl first with rain around, the Warriors were able to restrict the Lions to 94, as they were bowled out on the final ball.

Mikaela Fallins took 3-20 for the Warriors to be the pick of the bowlers.

The Warriors got off to a good start with the bat and were 1-32 when the game was halted after 8.2 overs.

That would be the end of the match, with the Lions progressing as they were higher ranked side.

Rachel Webb was 20 not out of 23 balls when the game ended.

The Warrior said it ends such a promising season where some juniors were blooded, some star recruits added and above all else there was a united team with a great culture.

The Lions will face Aberfeldie in the grand final.

Abers made light work for Sydenham-Hillside to beat the rain.

The Storm was restricted to just to 9-27 off just 14.2 overs.

Janine Sequeira top scored with just six.

With rain about, Abers didn’t waste much time, hitting the winning runs in five overs.

Abers finished 1-28.

Rumakjot Sandhu was the wicket taker for the Storm.
