A 46-year old Wollert man is expected to be interviewed as part of an international drug trafficking investigation that Victoria Police said has resulted in one of Australia’s largest LSD seizures.
On Wednesday 18 February, police executed search warrants at a Wollert address, where a small quantity of drugs was seized, and at a Mount Martha property, where investigators arrested two people after uncovering commercial quantities of LSD and almost $100,000 in cash and cryptocurrency.
During the investigation police have intercepted about 120 postal parcels containing more than 35,000 LSD tabs addressed to destinations across Australia and overseas.
Police said it is the largest LSD ever in Victoria and likely Australia. with the total quantity equating to a $15 million street value for 1.5 million individual hits.
Organised crime division Detective Superintendent Dave Cowan said LSD causes significant harm to the broader community.
“The negative effects this many street deals of LSD would have had are significant and would have been traumatic and life altering for many,” Detective Superintendent Cowan said.
The two Mount Martha residents, a 34-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, have been charged with a range of drug trafficking and manufacturing-related offences. The woman will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 20, while the man has been remanded to appear before the same court on February 24.
