Hume is hosting Australia Day in the Park, a free community event to celebrate community, culture and connection.
Hume mayor Carly Moore said the event is for all people to come together.
“[It is] to celebrate what it means to be Australian, and reflect on the journey that has shaped our nation.”
The event will include a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country with the Wurundjeri Council of Victoria.
Council said this recognises the cultural significance of the day and the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country.
The family-friendly event will feature live music, a magician, kids’ activities and free food,” Cr Moore said.
“By combining family-friendly activities with cultural recognition, we’re creating a space where people can celebrate, learn and spend time together.”
Australia Day in the Park will be held at Jack Roper Reserve, Broadmeadows, on Monday 26 January from 4pm, no bookings required.
