New measles exposure sites listed

The Department of Health has listed five measles exposure sites in the northern suburbs since 17 December .

The most recent exposures occurred at the Melbourne Airport and on a Jetstar flight.

The exposure date for Melbourne Airport in Tullamarine, terminal 2 was Sunday 11 January, from 10.45am-12.30pm.

The flight that has been listed as an exposure site is Jetstar flight JQ18 which departed Phuket and arrived at Melbourne Airport.

The exposure date for the flight is Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 January from 10.50pm to 11.20am.

Those present at these exposure sites during the listed times should monitor for symptoms up to Thursday 29 January.

On Saturday 20 December , there was another exposure site was at the Northern Hospital emergency department from 4.40pm-10.30pm.

Two further instances of exposure were listed for Wednesday 17 December in Dallas and Meadow Heights.

The Dallas exposure was at Platinum Medical Imaging, 533 Barry Road from 1.50pm-2.35pm.

The Meadow Heights exposure was at the Meadow Heights Medical Practice, 2 Taggerty Crescent from 1-2pm.

If you were present at these exposure sites at the listed time, the window to monitor for symptoms lapsed on 4 January.

Measles symptoms usually start with fever, cough, runny nose, red or sore eyes or feeling generally unwell.

This is usually followed by a rash which often starts on the face before spreading down the body

If symptoms develop, seek medical care.

If attending a health service, call the health service beforehand to inform them you may have been exposed to measles and wear a face mask.
