Paw-sitive plans

Lalor’s dog lovers could soon have a new spot for their pets to run, play and socialise with plans currently underway for an off-leash dog park at VR Michael Reserve.

Residents are being invited to have their say on a draft concept plan for the park which is proposed to include fenced lawn and gravel areas, garden beds, seating, a drinking fountain, shelter, lighting and bins.

Separate zones are also planned for the park in a bid to cater to dogs of all sizes and temperaments, as well as a new concrete path aimed at improving accessibility and trees for shade.

Cr Martin Taylor spoke to the importance of the newest proposed dog park as a welcoming space for animal lovers.

“This project will give local dog owners a safe and welcoming space to enjoy with their pets, while also helping strengthen community connections,” he said.

“We’ve heard from our community how important open spaces are for both people and their pets. The new dog park will be a great addition to VR Michael Reserve.”

Community consultation is now open and runs through to Saturday 23 November, with locals invited to view the draft concept plan and complete a short survey on the Engage Whittlesea Website.

The feedback will shape the final concept plan which will be shared with the community prior to construction beginning, with works expected to begin next year and be completed by July.
