Community Hospital pending

Residents in Melbourne’s north will soon have easier access to vital healthcare, with the long-awaited Mernda Community Hospital set to officially open on Monday 24 November.

Located at 35 Flourmill Drive, Mernda, the new facility will operate from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and aims to provide a range of specialist and community health services designed to take pressure off larger hospitals, including Northern Hospital Epping.

The newly built hospital will offer a mix of essential and specialist services from day one, including a pharmacy, pathology collection centre, dental services, paediatric care – covering developmental, behavioural, respiratory and allergy clinics – and a suite of allied health services.

Northern Health says the opening marks a major step in improving access to care for families in Mernda, Doreen, Whittlesea and surrounding communities, reducing the need to travel long distances for appointments and treatment.

“The opening of Mernda Community Hospital marks a new chapter in local healthcare, bringing vital services closer to home and easing pressure on surrounding hospitals,” said Kathyrn Bartho, Divisional Director of Community Hospitals and Outpatient Services at Northern Health.

“We’re proud to support a healthier, more connected community.”

Further expansions are planned for 2026, including renal dialysis services, urgent care, community mental health programs, and diagnostic services such as radiology and advanced pathology.
