Man charged in Melinda Freeman case

Police have charged a man as part of their investigation into the 1991 death of Melinda Freeman in Whittlesea.

A 63-year-old Greensborough man was arrested in Greensborough on the morning of Wednesday 5 November.

The man was interviewed by police and charged with murder.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

The arrest follows an incident on October 4 1991, where 27-year-old Melinda was located dead about 11.30pm inside her Yea Road home in Whittlesea after being fatally assaulted.

A number of public appeals for information in relation to her death have been made by both police and Melinda’s family over the past three decades, including a $1 million reward in February 2022.
