Final works make for delays

Delays are expected along Epping Road as upgrades near the final stage of completion.

Final asphalting and line-marking are now underway as works continue through to December along Epping Road and side-roads between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue.

The works are said to cause delays up to 30 minutes for travellers as sections of Epping Road and side-roads will close throughout the day and night so crews can complete construction.

Motorists are told to expect a full weekend of road delays between 8pm Friday 17 October and 5am Monday 20 October as Epping Road will close in both directions between Bridge Inn Road and De Rossi Boulevard/Pine Park Drive.

Big Build roads program director Dipal Sorathia said the community’s patience is appreciated as works close in on the final stages.

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete these critical upgrades, which will see extra lanes open by the end of the year and major construction completed on this important corridor,” he said.

Lyndarum Drive reopened on Friday 10 October ahead of schedule thanks to favourable weather conditions.

“We’re pleased to have reopened Lyndarum Drive and to be powering ahead with final asphalting and line-marking in the northern sections of the project,” Mr Sorathia said.

Epping Road is expected to bare three lanes in each direction between Craigieburn Road East and Lyndarum Drive, as well as two in each direction between Lyndarum Drive and Memorial Avenue by the end of the year as works come to completion, with extra lanes also being added at side-road intersections.

The opening of the new lanes are expected to mark the end of the major constructions on the Epping Road upgrades, with finishing works requiring short-term lane and side-road closures expected for 2026.

Mr Sorathia said the project’s four kilometres of new and upgraded lanes between Wollert and Epping will make travel safer and smoother for road users.

“These works will set the stage for safer, smoother journeys on Epping Road for thousands of drivers every day” he said.
