Cultural connection

Mernda and Doreen Multicultural Association has invited service providers and residents to find out more about the local Indian community and the challenges of settling in new places. There will also be a range of Indian foods to sample. The meeting is in the fountain view room at Whittlesea council’s offices, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang, from 2-4pm on Thursday, October 16.

It’s showtime

The 94th Sunbury Agricultural Show will be held on October 11. The annual event is expected to attract more than 13,000 people to the showgrounds at Clarke Oval on Riddell Road. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for children.

Planters needed

Garden beds lining shops in O’Shanassy Street, Sunbury, will be turned over and planted with edible summer plants on Saturday, October 11. Volunteers are needed to complete the task from 10am-noon. Meet outside Vic’s at No.93 O’Shannassy Street.

Women’s health

Meadow Heights Learning Shop will run a series of free women’s health sessions in Arabic and English next month. An Arabic quit-smoking session will be held on October 14 at 11am and an English session will follow on October 16, also at 11am. Breast health information sessions will be held on October 21 and 23.

Quality time for dads and kids

An informal group for fathers and their children will meet at Epping Views Primary School hall from 9.30-11am every Saturday during school terms. Entry by gold coin.

Time to walk the talk

Primary school children are being encouraged to get moving, improve their health and help reduce traffic congestion during Walk to School Month (October). Participants can also win some great prizes for their family and school.

Raise your voice

The Mernda Community Singers meet at the Mernda Village Community Activity Centre from 7-9pm every Thursday during school terms. Cost: $10 a week.

Doing the law justice

The 150th anniversary of the Whittlesea courthouse will be celebrated next month. Activities will be held daily from 9am-5pm until October 19 at corner of Church and Beech streets.
