Andrew’s Banh mi and pie brings the beef

Thomastown business Andrew’s Banh mi and Pie has proven it’s not just famous for its acclaimed banh mi after the official Great Aussie Pie competition has crowned it as medalists on the first day of judging for the nationwide competition.

The competition has brought together some of the best bakers from around the country, with over 1500 entries being shipped from over 200 bakeries to the competition at the Fine Food Australia event currently being held at the ICC in Sydney.

The pie-fest celebrates the passion, creativity and craftsmanship which goes into the Aussie staple of hot pies and has been an industry backed endorsement of the greatest pies and sausage rolls in the country since 1989.

Judges tried and tested pies of all shapes and sizes, from the humble meat pie to the more adventurous cauliflower rigatoni and vodka sauce flavoured pies.

Andrew’s Banh mi and Pie brought home two gold medals for their red meat based potato pie and chilli and cheese pies, and two silver medals for their mushroom and curry pies.

But their excellence doesn’t stop there as the local bakehouse brought home five bronze medals for their chunky mince, mince, cheese, pepper, cheese and bacon pies and their sausage rolls.

Every year, the Aussie pie council encourages bakers, chefs, pastry cooks and even butchers from all around Australia to take part in the competition for a chance to cash in on prizes, coveted titles and a barrage of other benefits.
