Benetas Bridgewater Lake resident Dorothy Collins, 80, and her daughter Amanda Russell, 52, will each submit six pieces for the 13th annual Bridgewater Lake Art Show, which this year boasts a record 320 artworks from more than 60 artists.
After a break in 2024, the popular exhibition will return Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 in Roxburgh Park estate community centre.
For Mrs Collins, who moved into Bridgewater Lake three years ago, the art show was a major drawcard.
“I chose to live here because of the art show,” she said.
“It’s great having something in common with Amanda. We bounce ideas off each other – it’s a joy.”
Painting has been a lifelong passion for Mrs Collins, who began in secondary school and now paints landscapes, bush scenes and animals in oil two to three times a week.
Amanda, credits her mother for sparking her creative interest while growing up in Greensborough.
“It’s a bonding thing,” she said. “Mum has been there as I’ve learnt and better understood my ability and passion.”
While Amanda also focuses on landscapes, her work spans a wide range of subjects. She said she’s most excited to witness the joy the exhibition brings to the community.
The creative streak continues with Amanda’s teenage daughter, Jordan, who is exploring her own artistic path through crochet and music.
The Bridgewater Lake Art Show is a highlight on the estate’s calendar, and with its record-breaking number of submissions, 2025 promises to be the biggest yet.
