Shaving for a cause

Students and staff from Kolbe Catholic College have gone under the shears for a good cause.

Raising more than $8100 in the fight against cancer during a high-spirited school assembly attended by 1300 students and more than 200 staff members, friends, family and colleagues watched as some of the year 12 students and teachers took the plunge for a worthy cause.

Kolbe’s principal Nick Scully, along with teachers Kelly Hack, Jimmy Lee, Matthew Sabato, Ryley Patford, and year 12 students Rhien and Stephen went under the clippers and had their heads shaved.

Teachers Christina Arfi, Brittany Vella, and year 12 students Jasmine and Georgia trusted fellow colleagues and students with cutting their hair, while Cameron Whitford, Tanya Borg, Jess Pendlebury, Nicola Karaconstansis, Sophia Antoniades, as well as several year 12 students had their hair coloured.

Leading the shave, Mr Scully said, “Too many of us have felt the impact of cancer in some way, and we must unite to support those in need. Together, we can bring hope and encouragement to those affected by this disease”.

Rhien shared his motivation for participating in the shave and said, “I have heard that cancer makes you feel alone. By doing something like shaving my head, it allows me to connect with them”.

No one deserves to feel alone,” he said.
