Hume City ready to launch

Everything but the results have started to come together for Nick Hegarty in his return as Hume City coach.

Hegarty returned to the National Premier League club from the United Kingdom, to step back into the coaching seat which he had previously held.

Hume has yet to taste victory in that period but remain in the top six.

Hegarty said it was nice to be back at a club where he has had a lot of success.

“It’s been fun,” he said. “The results haven’t gone our way but in a couple of those games we put some good performances out there.

“They are taking in the information and changes and it’s happening faster than I expected.”

Just three players are still at the club from the last time Hegarty was in charge, meaning he is virtually working with a new playing group.

Hegarty said the early part has been seeing where the group is at and what is needed.

“It was nice to be in a good place to kind of attack finals,” he said.

“We’ve got a tough couple of games up. The position we are in is probably a few points better than we should be.

“The squad is really good and we want to give them the best tools and skills to get the best out of the season.”

Hume added two players during the transfer window in Zahi Addis and Mason Tatafu, with Hegarty saying they had both started really well.

He said the focus had been to fill some areas they needed improving, not just for this season but also next season.

Hegarty said they had spoken to the playing group about what they wanted to achieve from the rest of the season..

“We’ve looked to raise a few standards,” he said. “We’re in a position that we can challenge and they are fully on board with that.

“We want to be in the best position possible and give everything possible to have a good season.”

Sitting in sixth spot, Hume’s finals fate rests in its own hands.

With several teams hot on its tail it has to ensure that it plays some good matches in the run home.

Hume has a break on the weekend due to a catch up round.

There would be no rest for Hume though as they continue to gel under Hegarty.

“We have to make sure we keep building on the good things that we have been doing,” he said.

“In other areas we want to get some quick wins. We have a really good young talented footballer in the group, we want to maximise the skill set the best for the team.”
