Voters enrolled in Whittlesea’s Lalor Ward are being encouraged to check the mail for their ballot packs for the upcoming postal by-election.
Lalor Ward voters need to elect a new councillor after the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) voided the ward’s result in last October’s local government elections amid vote tampering.
There are 11 candidates for the Lalor Ward this time around.
Electoral commissioner Sven Bluemmel is encouraging people to vote as early as possible.
Ballot material must be in the mail or delivered to the election office by 6 pm Friday, August 1.

Voters should check their local mail clearance times as this could be earlier than 6pm, or earlier in the week.
Voters who haven’t received their ballot pack by Tuesday July 22 should call the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) on 131 832 during business hours for a replacement.
Candidates who have nominated for the by-elections are listed in the ballot packs. If candidates have provided them, there will also be candidate photos and statements in the packs, and answers to the candidate questionnaire online.
Voting is compulsory for voters who were on the state roll for these by-elections at 4 pm Wednesday, May 21.
State-enrolled voters who don’t vote may be fined.
The VEC encourages council‑enrolled voters to vote but they will not be fined if they don’t.
