Six teenagers are in hospital with serious injuries after a car they were in rolled and crashed in an embankment at the entrance to the Hume Freeway in Epping.
Police said three 17-year-old boys from Whittlesea, two 16-year-old boys from Hume and 19-year-old Seymour woman were in a Haval SUV which crashed at the O’Herns Road freeway entrance in the early hours of Wednesday, June 18.
Police first spotted the Haval SUV, believed to be stolen during an aggravated burglary at a home on Starboard Drive in Doreen in the early hours of June 17, travelling at high speed near Church Street in the Whittlesea township. about 1am.
Officers lost sight of the car, but the Air Wing picked it up about 20 minutes later in the vicinity of Plenty Road in South Morang.
Police successfully deployed stop sticks on Bellevue Boulevard, while awaiting updates from the Air Wing monitoring from above.
The chopper continued monitoring the Havel as was driven through Epping before rolling near the entrance of the Hume Freeway on O’Herns Road.
Police said the teenagers remained in hospital under police guard.
