Hearts of gold

Whittlesea will shine a spotlight on its volunteers during National Volunteer Week from May 19 to 23, celebrating those who give their time, energy and heart to help others.

With the theme ‘Connecting Communities’, the week will offer a vibrant schedule of free, inclusive events ranging from pottery and candle-diffuser workshops to Zumba Gold and African drumming.

Each activity is designed to promote health, joy and social connection, while giving thanks to those who serve selflessly.

A special community lunch will acknowledge the vital role volunteers play across the municipality.

Representatives from the Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC PYP) will also be available to chat about local volunteering opportunities.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or considering getting involved, this week is a chance to celebrate, connect and be inspired.

“As a long time volunteer, I have witnessed first hand the invaluable contributions volunteers make across the City of Whittlesea,” mayor Martin Taylor said.

“They give their time, energy, and compassion selflessly, supporting others, strengthening connections, and building a more resilient and caring community.

“National Volunteer Week is our opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks and publicly recognise the lasting impact that volunteers have on people’s lives.”
