Northern Health takes centre stage at National Pain Conference

Under the bright lights of Melbourne’s annual Australian Pain Society (APS) Scientific Meeting, Northern Health made its mark as a leader in the national conversation on pain care.

Northern Health’s contribution included convening packed workshops to showcasing cutting-edge research at the April event, which united clinicians, researchers and global experts to explore the future of pain management.

Nicole Gauthier, pain management nurse practitioner, convened the sold-out Acute Pain Workshop, held in the conference’s largest room.

The workshop featured several Northern Health presenters including ED nurse practitioner Letty Bastian, who shared an innovative initiative trialling acupuncture for back pain being utilised in the Emergency Department.

Dr Jamie Mckay and Dr Joanna Lawrence also delivered talks.

Research was also on show, with Analgesic Stewardship Pharmacist, Joyce Anthony, having two research posters accepted to the national conference.

“It was fantastic to see many Northern Health faces leading and contributing to discussions about acute pain care,” Nicole Gauthier said.

“It reflects the strength and dedication of our team and our commitment to improving outcomes for patients.”
