Community win as Yan Yean Road Intersection design amended

Access to the Doreen commercial precinct will be preserved under revised plans for the Yan Yean Road and Bridge Inn Road Intersection upgrade– an outcome welcomed by local businesses and community members.

The updated design, published on the Victoria’s Big Build website on April 10, follows sustained community advocacy.

A key concern had been that the original plans did not include direct access to the precinct from Yan Yean Road, prompting fears over the future viability of businesses in the area.

The revised intersection layout now includes traffic lights at Activity Way, with dedicated turning lanes to improve vehicle access in and out of the business precinct.

A new slip lane from Yan Yean Road will allow direct entry, while on- street parking will be retained in front of the Old General Store and Post Office.

Two bus stops near the intersection and a signalised pedestrian crossing will also be added. Improving safety and accessibility.

Liberal member for northern Victoria Wendy Lovell, who supported the campaign for changes, said the new plans were “a win for the community.”

“I am proud to have been able to support the local business owners to achieve this sensible outcome,” Ms Lovell said.

The changes are part of the broader Yan Yean Road Upgrade– Stage 2, aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in Melbourne’s growing northern suburbs.
