Million-dollar drug haul

A tip-off led Whittlesea police to an alleged $1 million cannabis crop haul from a house in Doreen on Thursday. About 13 detectives from the Whittlesea Criminal Investigation Unit raided the property just after 7am. They found 530 cannabis crops growing throughout the single-storey house. Police are still trying to track down the owners.

Slow builder fined $40K

A builder has been ordered to pay his clients almost $40,000 for failing to complete their house in Mernda in time. According to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Kyneton-based builder Viss Group Pty Ltd is partway through the process of being struck off its register of companies. The home owners said builder Greg Molloy had 272 days to build the 20-square-metre single-storey house but took 843 days.

Burglary charges

A Craigieburn man, 28, and a Doreen man, 29, are in police custody on charges including aggravated burglary, serious assault, drug and firearm offences after raids on two properties last week. They will appear in court on December 10.

New medical centre for Doreen

A medical centre is slated for Doreen after Whittlesea council issued a planning permit last week. The new centre, at 1-5A Laurimar Boulevard, will have space for six doctors. The centre will open Monday to Saturday.
