NPL: Whittlesea Ranges primed for finale after win over Springvale

Whittlesea Ranges will enter the final round of the inaugural National Premier League 1 season full of confidence on the back of a good win against Springvale White Eagles.

Ranges scored a goal in each half to win 2-0.

They opened the scoring in the 21st minute, when central defender Daniel Sotiropoulos found space in front of goal.

The Eagles attacked continuously in the second half but Ranges’ defence held firm.

Matthew Iuliano scored the Ranges’ second goal eight minutes from the end to wrap up the win.

Ranges are 13th on the 14-team ladder and will be away to Bulleen Lions in the final round of the season.

In state league 2 north west, Hume United and Sporting Whittlesea ended their seasons in disappointing fashion.

Whittlesea lost 3-1 against Geelong, while Hume United lost to Melbourne University by the same score.

North Sunshine Eagles won the title by one point from Corio, who will also be promoted.

Whittlesea United finished its season on a high with a 4-1 win over North City Wolves in state league 3 north west.

But Lalor United had a disappointing end to the season with a 6-0 loss against champions Essendon Royals.

In state league 4 north, Upfield finished on top of the ladder, seven points clear of Darebin United.

Greenvale capped of its great season with a 5-2 win in state league 5 north.

They were joined on the winners’ list by Northern United, while Sporting Carlton and Lighting United drew 2-2.
