Plenty Valley Cricket Club invites the girls

Plenty Valley Cricket Club women’s team and Cutting Edge Cricket centre are hosting a come-and-try day for women.

Rachel Napolitano, who helps run the centre and plays for Plenty Valley, said the idea was to help provide girls in the north somewhere to learn skills through a development squad.

“We have about 20 girls on a database and usually get about 10 to each session [usually once a month],” she said.

“We’re trying to grow cricket in the area and help girls find teams to play with. They’re basic sessions, where we run skills and have a few games.”

Napolitano said a growing number of clubs had girls’ teams.

“Plenty Valley has three sides this season and are looking to use it as a pathway between junior and senior cricket,” she said.

“Bundoora Park, South Morang and Bundoora United also have girls’ teams.

“This come-and-try day and development squad is about trying to grow female cricket and sending girls out to their local clubs to play.”

The come-and-try day is at Cutting Edge Cricket at 10.30am on October 1.
