The Liberal Party has pledged $2.5 million to help upgrade Kalkallo’s Dwyer Street Reserve if it wins the federal election.
While the election has yet to be called by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, funding pledges have already started flowing from both major parties.
Liberal candidate for McEwen and opposition infrastructure spokeswoman Bridget McKenzie visited Kalkallo last week to make the funding pledge.
They said the funding would support Hume council’s $5.1 million investment.
According to council, the upgrade would include a community pavilion catering to soccer and cricket, both of which have recorded increased demand across Hume.
The pavilion would include a community room and kitchen, four sets of female-friendly change rooms and trainer rooms, two female-friendly umpire’s rooms, storerooms, office space and public amenities,
Mayor Jarrod Bell welcomed the funding pledge.
“The infrastructure our growing communities need can only be delivered with all levels of government working together collaboratively, creating places which foster belonging and connection.” he said.
Council has called for the Labor Party to match the commitment.
