Charges after patient death at hospital

WorkSafe has charged Northern Health following the death of a patient at Northern Hospital in Epping.

Northern Health is facing three charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that persons other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.

The patient took their own life after being involuntarily admitted to the hospital for mental health treatment in July 2023.

The matter is listed for a filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 4..
