New school ready to welcome students

The final touches are being put in place ahead Wirrigirri Primary School opening its doors to students later this month.

The Wollert school will take its first students this year, with 100 students expected to attend the school.

Principal Bec Spink said it was a pretty exciting time.

“It’s an amazing experience and a bit of a journey to get there,” she said.

“We’re super keen to get the staff on site.

“At the moment we’ve got about 100 students and we’re expecting that number will continue to grow.”

The school has students in all grades, with about half of them in prep.

Ms Spink has been in the role of principal since April and has been working hard to put together an experienced and diverse teaching group.

She was previously a teacher and then assistant principal at a new school in the Craigieburn region.

Ms Spink said the students and staff were lucky to have great facilities at Wirrigirri.

“The design of the learning hubs has been quite amazing,” she said.

“The spaces allow collaborative work across the kin groups.

“There’s an amazing play space with an adventure playground, a gaga pit and open grass area from day one.”

Grade 1 through to grade 6 will start on January 31, with the preps to start on February 5.
