It was a tough start to the Victorian Premier Cricket season for the Greenvale Kangaroos on Saturday.

Rain played havoc across the competition with just two matches completed, one of those was the Kangaroos loss to Geelong at Greenvale Recreation Reserve.

Geelong batted first after winning the toss and piled on the runs, making 6-278 from its overs.

Lachie Field starred with 105 in the middle order.

Musa Hussain, Declan Highgate and Ivan Zmak took two wickets each for the Kangaroos.

The rain meant that the Duckworth-Lewis Stern method came into play.

It mattered little as the Kangaroos batting line failed to fire.

Captain Justin Galeotti made 65 not out at the top of the order, but he had little support as he batted through the innings.

Jordan Kosteas made 36, but just one other player reached double figures. There were five ducks in the innings.

Joshua Larkin took four wickets for Geelong.

In the women’s premier competition, Plenty Valley lost to Melbourne.

Melbourne made 6-112 from its overs with Rebeka Vandot and Adelaide Campion taking two wickets each for the Bats.

The Bats had a solid start before the wickets fell to be restricted to 9-96 off their 20 overs.

Umasha Thimeshani top scored with 22 at the top of the order.

In the premier seconds, Plenty Valley beat Greenvale.
