Strathmore were better in the bigger moments and with it ended Greenvale’s Essendon District Football League premier division season.
Having claimed the scalp of Aberfeldie in the first week of finals, the Jets were hoping to add the Mores to the tally on Sunday in a semi final.
For three and half quarters, it was anyone’s game.
The Jets led at quarter time after kicking the only goal of the first quarter, before the Mores led by one point at half time.
The margin slightly increased to five points at the final break.
It was still within a goal as the clock ticked past 20 minutes in the final quarter.
Three goals to the Mores broke open the game up and led by 17 points.
It was goal for goal after that with the Mores winning, 10.13 (73)-7.8 (50).
Jets coach Darren Bewick said it was disappointing to bow out in that manner.
“We’re a bit flat,” he said. “I thought we were in the match even though we didn’t play particularly well.
“We hung in there but we didn’t take our chances.”
The game was played in tough windy conditions. Bewick said they had handled them well the week before so there were no excuses.
Bewick said their biggest issue was not enough players stepping up on the day.
“A lot of players were down which is disappointing,” he said. “In finals you have to make the most of your chances and make the most of those moments at critical times.
“We didn’t do that so our season ends.”
Bewick said Kyle Weightman, who kicked four goals, and Cooper Keogh were the difference between the two teams.
Josh Porter was the only multiple goalkicker for the Jets with two.
Bewick said Jonathan Keratianos on wing was good, Jason Kenneth did some night things, while Mitch Podhajski did his role.
He said they didn’t have many other standouts.
While disappointed to have their season end, Bewick said they had made some progress this season.
“We’re getting better each year,” Bewick said. “We’ll look to get better again.
“We are where we belong, we belong in finals.
“We had our first finals win since 2017, that is progress. We’ve got some depth now and more pressure for selection which we haven’t had for three years.
“Hopefully we’ll take a bit of momentum into the pre-season and hit that hard going into next year.”
