Youth Opportunity Scholarship 2024

Twenty-eight year 10 students will be $1000 richer thanks to Hume council’s Youth Opportunity Scholarship.

Council determined in a meeting on December 12, 2022, that it should recognise the academic efforts of secondary school students and 2023 was the first year this scholarship was awarded.

The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate continued effort and progression toward achieving their goals in 2024.

The recipients are nominated by the principal from each secondary school in Hume and one TAFE program.

The council is encouraging students to pursue their academic pursuits as the financial assistance is for the two following areas.

Councillor Joseph Haweil championed the idea of supporting students in a critical juncture in their lives.

“In speaking to teachers and educators and very often parents as well, year 10 can be a critical year in the life trajectory of many students,” he said.

“So for that reason this council has been of the view after this matter was initially raised in December 2022, that we would like to make a contribution and provide support to those students who continue to exhibit effort and progress towards achieving their goals.”

“We do know that very many students have a whole range of impacts that may negatively impact their progress and their education but this council are very much ally themselves with those students who go above and beyond each day, despite sometimes very difficult circumstances to pursue their dreams and to achieve all that they want to achieve in life.”
