Whittlesea council will host the Ageing Well Expo on Tuesday, 18 June, providing a comprehensive resource hub for older residents.
The event will feature over 50 service providers specialising in positive, healthy living and expert-led sessions covering topics, such as retirement planning and scam awareness.
Visitors to the expo will also enjoy entertainment by the Legends of Brass throughout the day.
Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said the event highlighted the City of Whittlesea’s commitment to promoting healthy ageing.
“The Ageing Well Expo reflects our dedication to ensuring that our older residents have access to resources and support on how to stay safe and live well as we age,“ she said.
“I encourage anyone planning for the future or caring for a loved one to join us for a wonderful day of education, empowerment, and celebration of the vibrant ageing community here in City of Whittlesea.“
This year’s theme, ‘Together, we can stop elder abuse’, aligns with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, observed annually on 15 June.
Abuse toward seniors can occur in various forms, including financial, emotional, physical, and neglect.
To raise awareness, seniors from Whittlesea participated in the Warm Safe Home project, creating decorated cardboard house models to represent a warm, safe home. They will showcase these creations at the expo.
Seniors Rights Victoria will hold a free information session to raise awareness about elder abuse and how to combat it.
The expo will be held from 10am to 3pm at the Plenty Ranges Art and Convention Centre, 35 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang.
The venue is fully accessible, with ramps, lifts, and accessible toilets available.
