Celebrating nurses and midwives

Both International Midwife and International Nurse’s Day have been celebrated this month at Northern Health.

Shining a spotlight on the dedication of midwives and nurses in Melbourne’s north, Northern Health paid tribute to the hard work of their employees across the area.

Chief nursing and midwifery officer Lisa Cox paid her appreciation to the crop of passionate workers.

“Thank you to each and every one of our nurses and midwives for all that you do. Each interaction of care that you provide is so incredibly important, and the impact you have on our patients and community is undeniable,” she said.

Northern Health also announced the recipient of the inaugural BankVic Nursing and Midwifery

Scholarship, awarded to a Northern Health nurse or midwife in recognition of valuable service and dedication to the role.

The award included $5000 to go towards further education or to attend a national conference.

The winner of the scholarship was graduate nurse Allison Mhlanga.

As a graduate nurse, Ms Mhlanga is looking forward to, and committed to, ongoing professional

growth, pursing advanced education and actively engaging in initiatives that promote nursing

leadership and innovation. She plans to use the scholarship toward completing her post-graduate studies in anaesthetics and recovery.

“I aspire to make positive changes within Northern Health, driving improvements in patient

outcomes, operational efficiency and the overall wellbeing of our patients,” she said.

“Together with my fellow nurses, I am excited to harness the economic power of care to create a

brighter future for healthcare delivery and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we help.”
