Collapse costs Kookas

Rivergum’s premierships hopes came tumbling down with the Kookas worst batting performance of the North Metro Cricket Association Jika Shield season proved costly.

After losing their semi final to Holy Trinity in week one of the finals, the Kookas were going to have to make the grand final the hard way against Camrea in the preliminary final on the weekend.

Camrea, which originally wasn’t going to play this season due to suspension has been the surprise packet in the back part of the season.

On Saturday, Camrea won the toss and decided to bat. Camrea got off to a solid start before three quick wickets saw it go from 0-48 to 3-59.

Another two key partnerships got the side towards 200 before a late collapse resulted in the side going from 5-177 to all out for 183 in the 76th over.

Daniel Young was the pick of the bowlers for the Kookas with 5-19 off his 10 overs.

Jack Bell took two wickets and bowled tightly in his first senior grand final.

Needing 184 for the win and a grand final spot, the Kookas were after a strong start.

It was anything but as they were in trouble at 2-1.

The Kookas weren’t able to find a partnership and the experienced batting line up crumbled.

At 8-39 the game was all but over. Corey Altis and Jack Bell showed some resistance and put on 30 for the ninth wicket partnership.

The last two wickets fell without a run being scored, with the Kookas bowled out for 69 in the 34th over.

Altis top scored with 23 with five ducks in the Kookas innings.
