Poor start for Roxburgh Park

Roxburgh Park got away to a tough start to its round eight Victorian Turf Cricket Association division four clash on the weekend.

After winning the toss and sending Gellibrand to the field, Roxburgh Park would have been hopeful of posting a winning score however it was not to be as wickets continually fell throughout the innings.

Batting at three Sohaib Bhutta was the club’s top scorer with just 14 runs from 38 deliveries. Other than Bhutta the club only had one other player who made it to double digits with opening batsman Azadveer Singh reaching 10 off 34 balls.

Gellibrand skipper Paul Hetherington led the way from the front, taking four wickets for 23 off 16 overs for the day, including the final wicket of Shahid Ahmed to put an end to the Roxburgh Park innings, dismissing the side for just 56.

Gellibrand was able to chase the runs down with ease and add a further 40 runs to its tally as it looks to take out an outright win next Saturday.

While Ahmed may have been out for a golden duck, he was his side’s stand out bowler taking three wickets for 24.

Gellibrand will resume batting at 6-95, with Hetherington and Chirantha De Silva at the crease on 19 and three respectively.
