Works are set to ramp up on a section of High Street with the relocation and protection of underground and overhead power services.
From 9am to 3pm on Wednesday, January 17 , High Street will temporarily close in both directions between Memorial Drive and Findon Road.
Existing power services across High Street and its service road will be removed and relocated, new power poles will be installed, and new power lines will be connected.
Temporary traffic changes during the closure will include reduced speeds and detours via Cooper Street, Miller Street or Edgars Road, and O’Herns Road.
Local access for residents and businesses on High Street and its service road will be maintained via local side roads.
Bus services 356, 357 and 377 will detour via O’Herns Road and Miller, Rufus and High streets in both directions.
Temporary alternative bus stops will be available on Memorial Avenue, east of High Street.
Delays are expected, so drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when commuting.
Due to unplanned service outages in the surrounding network or inclement weather, works can change at short notice.
Roadside electronic message boards will notify of any changes.
The High Street works are part of the upgrade’s program of relocating and protecting over 17km of electricity and telecommunications cables and gas and water pipes.
Completion of the services works will allow crews to begin building the upgrade’s new lanes in each direction between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue.
The project will also improve six intersections and connections for pedestrians and cyclists.
The upgrade will provide safer journeys for the 35,000 drivers who use Epping Road daily.
The upgrade is due for completion in 2025.
