Bridge-Inn upgrades

Pre-schoolers have learned how roads help their community in an hour of fun with the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade team.

The MPRV visited Kiddy Palace Learning Centre in Mernda, located on Schotters road last week 13 to educate the children on road projects with a variety of road construction-themed activities.

The kids looked the part too, with the team dressing them in mini high-vis vests and safety helmets as part of the fun.

Along with the lessons on the importance of roads for the community, the children enjoyed participating in building and road safety activities.

They also learned about the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade works, which once complete, the upgrade will make trips to the centre safer and easier with additional lanes.

The upgrade is adding lanes in both directions between Plenty and Yan Yean roads, upgrading key intersections, and building new walking and cycling paths.

The upgrade has also built a new bridge over Plenty River, which will open to traffic in the coming weeks, and is repurposing the existing 155-year-old heritage bridge for walking and cycling.

The upgrade will deliver safer, more-reliable travel along Bridge Inn Road while improving access to Mernda’s train station and town centre.

The upgrade will also reduce congestion and travel times while boosting safety and connecting communities across the growing outer northern suburbs.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2025.
