Hume council is investigating whether any elements of its cancelled Carols by Candlelight can be included in other festive activities.
Due to heavy and persistent rainfall, Craigieburn Anzac Park was not in suitable or safe condition to host the event on Saturday night.
The event is unable to be rescheduled due to complexities around bookings and contracts with performers and vendors.
However, the council said they are investigating if any elements of Carols by Candlelight can be included in Hume’s festive season program.
Hume mayor Naim Kurt said he was very disappointed to have to cancel the event.
“We know how much our community was looking forward to the Christmas Carols, but the safety of our community was our number one priority,” he said.
“We are looking at options to reuse elements from the carols at other Christmas events in Hume.
“I encourage our community to join us at our Christmas in the Park events in Broadmeadows, Greenvale and Sunbury or one of our festive crafts, cooking and library story time events.”
Other Christmas events in Hume include, Christmas in the Park events are planned in Greenvale on Saturday, December 9, Broadmeadows on Saturday, December 16, and Sunbury on Sunday, December 17.
There are also a number of free Christmas related activities occurring at our libraries and community centres including Christmas crafts, twilight story time and the opportunity to write to Santa.
Community carols events include carols at Rupertswood on Saturday, December 9 and the Bulla Carols on Saturday, December 16.
